Trove (V/R) ACTNRMembers of the Association of Catholic Teachers( ACT) Ghana have reminded the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo to fulfill one of the promises he made during the 2016 campaign that he and his government would hand over management of mission schools and character training of students back to the various missions.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the assocaition at Torve in the Volta Region after the association’s national delegates’ meeting and jointly signed by Bro. Emmanuel Dogodzi (National President), Bro. EMMANUEL Gazari ( National Secretary) and Bro. Williams Boakye-Baafi ( National Coordinator) respectivily.
The statement called on the government to honour the promise made by speeding up in signing the Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) between the Government and the Missions on Education to regain the confidence reposed in him by both th Christians and Muslims in the country.
The association stated clearly that if the management of mission and unit schools were given to the missions the issue of indiscipline among the young which was geting out off hands would be reduced.
The statement also called on the Government to ensure that the structures of management and control of Mission Schools are recognized at all levels that is, from the school to the national in the new Basic Education Bill before its passage by parliament of Ghana.
The statement further stated that it would go a long way to restore the effectiveness; efficiency and quality that used to exist in mission schools.
